1. One Big Thing: Historic release of locally raised Barramundi
What’s Happening?
Rockhampton State High School recently released 1,000 tagged barramundi into the Fitzroy River, concluding its first barramundi grow-out program.
This was made possible through the school’s new $5 million Aquaculture Centre, where students received hands-on training in aquaculture.

The initiative enhances fish stocks in the Fitzroy River while equipping students with skills vital for Queensland’s expanding aquaculture industry.

2. The Tinkerage with Fair & Auction for National Recycling Week

Resource Recovery Australia (RRA) will hold a National Recycling Week Fair & Auction and open The Tinkerage, a new reuse and repair workshop, on Saturday, 16 November at Rockhampton’s Lakes Creek Road Waste Management Facility.

This initiative promotes sustainability by encouraging reuse and providing hands-on learning in repair, reducing landfill waste and supporting local job initiatives.
